On reflection
To qoute Jungle Book - the Walt Disney version:-
What should we do now?
I don't know what should we do now?
We could...
Craig well done an outstanding effort to cart your 6foot frame across the UK hats off to you
Some thoughts
It is like eating an elephant small bits at a time having stops every 2-3 hours
Plenty of snacks you are "eating for today and tommorrow"
South to North allows you to take advantage of prevailing winds

Condition. I should mention the hardship faced by our directeur sportif Simon who had to put the wipers full on at one point!

d7 one day left
Well I ve never been so far north in Britain I ve got a nose bleed.
Bridge at cromarty and the firth was spectacular you forget that the oil industry is this far north until you see the rigs in the bay
Still don t know where all the cars are going
A great fast end to the day tail wind and 25mph for about30 miles
A wonderful B+B but the proprietor is as mad as a box of frogs- in the nicest possible way.
Less than 100 miles to go!

A Cancellara day neutralised day what the doc ordered and the sports physio
In Queensferry suggested as we crossed the pave'.
80 odd miles quite slow. But mainly pleasant some very busy sections on the A9
Too busy must have been punters on their way home from. Santa pod.
Mel Royles would have proud as we paid homage to the great route planner as we followed the cycle path to Dunkeld hotel by the
Tay a wonderful spot. Then a section of off road trails mud and gravel. Much better and not a lot of A9 traffic just the odd naked fisherman!

Over halfway and 4 days left Craigs been in a happy place today.
Wind changed to north east so hard going
To use a Boltonism
We've eaten half of the elephant unfortunately
There are the gristle of the ears to come!
Well certainly eaten some gristle and leathery ears still the tusks to go in Samye Ling
Buddhist Temple seeking enlightenment and a soft seat. Craig has bought a large brass buddha to fit on the handle bars
I suggested he get Paul to sit there it would be cheaper and would help on the descents

Griffin was in Contador mode as he decided to out sprint me to the top of the eskdale climb just for a photo as long as he remembers issues of race etiquette and attacking the yellow jersey when injured! Every dog has their day!
A great descent to Peebles the home of that great dj Andy and even better fast ride to Edinburgh a grreat day all round

d4 the ride itself
A great hard day 7hrs 114 miles flat for the first 50 then up to Shap 400m. Craig topped his day with his front wheel hub exploded at the top of Shap luckily not on the descent he was not best pleased as he picked up his bike dusted it down and started all over again
A dark place
Yesterday was tough and Paul and Craig were suffering and in their own "dark place" (Sherwinism)
In many ways it is only temporary although at the time psychlogically it's hard but nothing compared to the suffering of those we're trying to support with this challenge
Today Paul and Craig revisited their dark place it was a bit like a revolving revolving door one going in the other out although I think Paul was stuck there with his face
Against the door I think I almost joined them for a short while as my knee has been in a bad way today.
We had a stop in Lancaster Rich had chips us 3 went for the pharmaceutical option ANAL
GESICS painkillers
The Verve were wrong the "drugs DO WORK!" At least in the short term they helped

d4 some thoughts on human kind
The human race is amazing
This morning a muppet tried to run 2 of us off the road while travelling at 4mph in Port Sunlight
On Monday a lady gave us £5 and today some blokes at a round about
the rideout gave £20 for MacMillan
The milk of human kindness it helps us remember why we're doing the ride.
In a similar vein:
The Sherwinism dark place is the next blog :-)

A quiet start it got quieter as we left the van coughing and spluttering Paul is really struggling with diarr diari the *****. Massive liner in Liverpool more tocome
Smells of the big city some of rot and decay. Others of food from foreign places - perhaps this is a metaphor for any big city. It was sad in a way cycling past the old docks with names from history like Trafalgar and Waterloo great victories and Clarence dock the cross eyed lion from Daktari- ask your grand parents.
It was great taking the ferry to the Pier Head it is a spectacular water front.
Of the day itself:
Rich navigated us out Liverpool and on to Omsk, the new town not the city in Russia. We got separated and Rich and I had a good chase down of craig + paul. Preston was
Interesting all the traffic lights stop start trying out track stand Rich
Any way smart alec here tried it in the the middle of traffic and couldn't get out of the pedals
And subsequently fell over in classic slow motion had to laugh as everyone else was
Look out it could make u tube as pillock on bike.
Quote last nights stay was the worst so far - Paul - it was tthe night spent at home !

After causing a red alert on the national grid- check the news reactor touched meltdown-tumble drier dried all kit for today.
The. Bus going to the start is rather quiet as people contemplate their various maladies and injuries- apart that is from his Royal chirpiness and 'king of the mountains Rich Mills ( do they know your not off work on the sick?)
6am beautiful. And forecast is not bad compared to yesterday.
Will travel with crack berry today - its not and addiction- mustn't get precious wet.

Update later
It's been wetter than a wet day in wetsville last hour been rather unpleasant traffic noise etc

Another 110 miles down 16mph av 1400m ascent. But felt harder than yesterday lots of climbing and descending a great fast section until Bristol Redhill was rather warm.Clifton bridge spectacular wye valley was ace as well Paul was impressed with the views in Llandogo.
Croissants tommorrow to get an early start do they go soggy in the shower. Travel lodge near Monmout. Proprietor Norman bates.4till not convinced by this cycliing lark all the gayly coloured clothing and string vest! Was aq bit like a poormans Right said Fred- younger readers ask your parents.
Who gets a bloody coldy just before a big ride Craig god bless him he hacked his way up some climbs. Late on
He hit a low spot correctly diagnosed by Drs Griffin and Bowyer as alack of food- no way Sherlock I hear you cry! After a coke- bottle of- and gel he recovered from that "Dark place" that could only really be described in cliche form. By Messrs Liggett + Sherwin.
We also had or Craig did a close shave with an upset white van man who deliberately drove within inches of him on a clear road. I also received a friendly toot and hand signal from a good old lorry driver- certainly does nothing for the lorry driver Stereotype
This is a real shame as most drivers have been ace. If you on the Wye road take care look out for whit van man.
Missed the pink car damn!
Pauls has sore hands says he'll wear gloves - answers on a post card please
God bless him he says he's pedalled with a limp all day
As the good book says let he who has perfect hair extensions cast the first slagging off of the youth of monmouth - from all on the baldy man tour

Climb out of crediton it was fast out from tiverton basically all the way to cheddar tail
Wind again
9raig has suffered a lot with his cold although he's going very well. Missed Matt C in Bridgwater going too fast to stop- in my dreams-
Can see the mendips in front some hard climbing and 30 miles to Bristol. Hopefully not too many more cattle trucks defaecating over the road can't be healthy but might help me grow
Paul is riding strong and keeping speed over 18mph. Not many pink cars today done your favourite guitarist and drummer, actress and bishop comments
Establiished that I am. Mr MOR and no one else likes sting- although they all sing along! 2 counties so far today

at the end of the day (1)
Well as with every activity,so it seems, I've managed to tick my colleagues off.• Will try to be a bit tidier and a little less faff!
end of D1
An interesting end to the day but more of that later.
After an easy ride out as far as indian queens. It started to climb a little but a healthy tail wind assisted . A30 was abit monotonous and the road noise was horrendous. We made good time.It was a good feelig seeing the sign welcoming us to Devon ( slight accent change)it was great that we didn't need to stop for s cornish pasty or a cream tea. Finally we left the A 30 peace at last! It was strange not having traffic passing continuously @ 70mph+
However a far more hilly if picturesque series of roads. Quaint villages and thatched cottages
finished about 4pm - council hours! 6h50 on the road approx 17mph average.2200m of ascent
- that's the nerdy bit done. Travelled from finish in Crediton to Exeter.
Luckily the accommodation is directly opposite a major road so there'l be plenty of road
noise just like the A30! Day finished on a disharmo
Nius note as my carrier bag easy accessible method was not appreciated by our OCD bretheren.
Not sure Im cut out to be a cyclist too many techy things and having to count past 2.
on a positive the weather has improved no. end and to quote ELO
Sun is shining in the sky there's not a cloud in sight its stopped raining .....
Hot shower cold bath for recovery nice!
Trying complan as recovery drink hopefully I may lose some weight!

Well we're on the way thankfully the millitaristic geekish timekeeping has not occurred or the bike speak
The boys are just starting on the nasty parts of the journey! Crackberry is ace but don't know how to upload pics
We just picked up our driver for the rest of the trip he looks very much like Paul ! Just passed Avon bridge and
Felt the need to say how lucky we are having hit no traffic.... Just as we git the traffic! Oops 5th most poipular out of the 4 of us
Paul is already rearranging the route and pointing out all the hills!

Bit of a shock leaving Saturday morning 8.00am bit of a lie in I suppose. Hopefully get some shut eye on the way down to Cornwall
Need to check the forecast for the next few days.
Suppose I should start packing.

Well thanks very much to health & social care colleagues who have recommended NOT TO WAX!
Thanks to the 6th form team for their advice on a smart 'phone for a not smart person!
I'm now a crackberry addict! when it finally arrives- will do my best not to lose it, drop it, get it wet.

Dear Inter web,
day one of my Land's End John O'Groats Blog.
I hope it is of some interest.
A good day to start my blog as I 've had first tast of Scottish summer conditions as it lashed down on the way home:-( What was even more realistic was the way, after a good soaking on the way up to Bwlch Penbarras it dried out on the way to the Vale- still no rain on the sunnyside!
Tesco's to start buying supplies for the lands end john o'groats:-
Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen gel
glucosamine & cod liver oil
multivitamins
Aspirin
chamois cream
there's a bit of a theme developing I think.
Thought for the next few days - shaved legs or not?
could get them waxed I guess to raise additional funds suggestions welcome!
